  • Wynne: Fighting for what you believe is commendable, but the ends do not always justify the means.
  • Blood Mage: You don’t really believe that, do you, Wynne? Change rarely comes peacefully. Andraste waged war on the Imperium; she didn’t write them a strongly worded letter. She reshaped civilization, freed the slaves, and gave us the Chantry. But people died for it.

I adore Loghain! Did you ever let him join the Wardens? if not, give him a chance and talk to him.

He’s not a “good person”, but he’s an extremely interesting character, much more reasonable than you may think, very intelligent and strong and brave, and he loves his daughter more than anything in the world, but he also respects her deeply as a politician and a ruler. He’s also very loyal to Maric, even if it seems a contradiction given what he did to his son. But you have to consider that he honestly thought the Orlesians were a serious threat to Ferelden, while Cailan was very inclined to let them come and help against the Blight. And before you say “Cailan was right”, read The Stolen Throne. Loghain’s open hostility against Orlais becomes much clearer then :)

Ohh, well, I haven’t really given him the time of day. To be honest, I’m a terrible gamer, there’s no getting around that. I form practically immediate opinions on most all the characters in any game, and rarely change my opinions lest I play through a third time (am actually doing that now, and wow I am learning so many things!).
So, no, I never let him join the wardens, as it meant letting Alistair go. Though I never cared for Cailain either, I absolutely adora Anora - let her remain queen the first two times, plan on doing so this time too.

The Orlesians are a whole ‘nother matter, and seem …pretentious, at best. I do commend drastic measures at keeping their greasy hands out of Ferelden’s royal pantaloons, but he should’ve done better at Ostagar! Such as, perhaps, not lead his lil army away from battle. If he trusted better people than Arl Howe (my Cousland characters so do not approve), he could’ve saved a lot of lives.

I would’ve made more, uh, eloquent thoughts about this, perhaps later, once the neighbour is done mechanically stabbing stones. The echoing through the neighbourhood (and the house!) is quite…distracting, to say the least.

I didn’t say Loghain made good choices, quite the contrary. I said that he’s not a good person, but I love certain aspects of his character. I can love a character without agreeing with his choices.

If you want, try sparing him once even if it means you have to say goodbye to Alistair, and see for yourself! Maybe it will chance your mind, maybe it won’t, but anyway I think it’s worth it :)
